Barnet grammar schools top England’s 2026 GCSE performance rankings

Two Barnet grammar schools shared first place in England’s 2026 secondary school GCSE rankings.

The Department for Education published the data on October 15, covering schools across England.

Queen Elizabeth’s School and Henrietta Barnett School both had an average score of 8.71, equivalent to an A or A* according to the report.

At both schools, every pupil achieved at least grade 5 in English and maths.

Thirteen schools in total reached that 100% mark.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys had the North’s highest average score, at 7.91, followed by Heckmondwike Grammar School at 7.89.

The rankings come as secondary school applications for next year are due to close on October 31, giving families a performance comparison as they consider schools.
