Even Healthcare raises $50 million to expand its hospital network in Bengaluru

Even Healthcare raised $50 million in an all-equity funding round led by Khosla Ventures, with Alpha Wave also taking part.

The Indian startup was valued at $300 million, three times its value 18 months earlier, according to the company.

It aims to change a system where hospitals can earn more by providing extra tests, procedures or longer stays, even when patients may not need them.

Even says it puts patient care ahead of unnecessary treatment and pays doctors fixed salaries rather than linking their pay to the number of procedures they perform.

After concerns about care at partner hospitals, the company began building and running hospitals of its own to have more control over treatment and costs.

Even has opened two hospitals in Bengaluru, and its co-founder says both reached operating profitability, excluding depreciation, within a year.

The funding will support five more Bengaluru hospitals over the next six months, while the company also works with insurers on a model that could reward it for preventing hospital stays.
