Toulon beat Edinburgh 27-17 to open Challenge Cup campaign

Toulon beat Edinburgh 27-17 in Scotland to begin their European Challenge Cup campaign with a win.

Melvyn Jaminet scored 22 of Toulon’s points, including two tries, after being left out of the team’s previous match because of his recent form.

Edinburgh had won all three of their previous meetings with Toulon and were top of the United Rugby Championship after three wins this season.

Toulon came into the match after a difficult start to the season, with four losses in six games and coach Pierre Mignoni’s resignation.

The victory ended Toulon’s losing run against Edinburgh and gave the French club a strong start in Europe.

Toulon held off Edinburgh’s late attacks with firm defence to secure the win.

Toulon will host Georgia’s Black Lion next in the competition.
