EU approves €4.7 billion to reimburse members for arms sent to Ukraine
The EU Council approved €4.7 billion to partly repay member countries for weapons they have already sent to Ukraine.
A further €230 million will fund the EU Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine, bringing the decision's total to about €4.9 billion.
The money goes to EU countries, not directly to Ukraine: the European Peace Facility reimburses countries that supplied weapons from their own stocks.
The facility has also funded training, technical help and other military support, and the EU says its total support for Ukraine through the fund now stands at €10.8 billion.
This is the first funding tranche blocked by Hungary in 2023; Hungary lifted its veto this spring, but disagreements over how to share the money among EU countries delayed the process.
The Council has now adopted decisions allowing the funds to be used, including for reimbursements dating back to spring 2023.
The EU Council approved €4.9 billion from the European Peace Facility for military support related to Ukraine.
Of that amount, €4.7 billion will partially reimburse EU member states for military aid already delivered to Ukraine.

The latest decision brings the total support allocated for Ukraine through the facility to €10.8 billion, according to Bloomberg HT.
