Fijian conjoined twins separated in 12-hour surgery in Riyadh

Fijian twins Jasepeli and Desicia were successfully separated in an operation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The surgery took 12 hours and 45 minutes and was performed at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital.

The twins were joined at the abdomen and pelvis and shared several organs and parts of their urinary and reproductive systems.

A team of 34 medical and support staff took part in the operation, which was completed in nine stages.

It was the first separation of conjoined twins from Fiji and the 74th operation by Saudi Arabia’s Conjoined Twins Program.

The twins’ family thanked the Saudi leaders and medical team for their care, but no further details about the twins’ recovery were given.
