Binance CFO Kaiser Ng steps down after $6.3-billion hack

Binance CFO Kaiser Ng is leaving the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange to pursue another venture after more than five years there.

Justin Yek will take over as CFO; he most recently served as vice-president of finance at payments platform Airwallex.

The leadership change follows a $6.3-billion cryptocurrency theft from Binance in an attack disclosed just over a week ago.

Binance said the breach began months earlier, with malware in software downloads and fake job offers targeting engineers.

Binance says affected customers will be fully reimbursed, while the FBI has blamed a North Korean hacking group, an accusation Pyongyang denies.

Ng’s departure comes as the company handles the aftermath of the attack; Binance says a transition plan for his role has been in place over the past six months.
