Italy arrests 30 in probe into alleged mafia-linked hidden bank
Italian finance police arrested 30 people in a probe into an alleged hidden bank linked to organised crime.
The investigation is based in Milan and Monza Brianza and involves people suspected of ties to the ’Ndrangheta, Camorra and a criminal group from the Foggia area.
Police say the group used a car-rental company as cover for the operation.
Investigators uncovered more than €110 million in false invoices and say €68 million was laundered internationally through cryptocurrency.
The alleged network is also linked to tax fraud, bankruptcy offences, drug trafficking and weapons offences.
Authorities are seeking to seize more than €21 million in money and assets, including cryptocurrency, vehicles, boats and jewellery.
Arrests and searches were carried out in Italy, Spain and Switzerland, and the investigation is ongoing.
