India's bowling numbers worsen without Jasprit Bumrah

India's bowlers failed to defend 250 against the West Indies in a recent second T20 international.

The result renewed questions about how well the team can cope when Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable.

In T20 internationals this year, Bumrah has taken 23 wickets in 17 matches, and India have taken wickets at a lower average with him playing.

Without him across 16 matches, India took 90 wickets at an average of 27.84 and an economy rate of 9.16.

India's ODI figures without Bumrah were also concerning, with 66 wickets at an average of 44.83 in 10 matches.

Former India spinner R Ashwin said the team needed to develop more high-quality bowlers, while former bowling coach Bharat Arun pointed to workload management and performing skills under pressure.

The focus is on building a stronger pace attack, but the available information does not say what steps India will take next.
