OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-Live-1.1 With 13 New Voices
OpenAI began rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 on October 15 to users of ChatGPT Voice, Codex and dots.
The update adds 13 voices across English and six other languages, including French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish.
GPT-Live powers spoken conversations, and its earlier version was designed to listen and speak at the same time.
OpenAI says the new version has more natural accents and smoother task handoffs, and uses varied short phrases while searching the web instead of repeatedly saying “checking.”
The update matters because it changes how people interact by voice across OpenAI’s apps and services, although no performance benchmarks or direct comparisons were published.
API access is coming soon, but OpenAI has not given a date.
OpenAI has introduced GPT-Live-1.1 for ChatGPT’s voice feature, adding 13 voices and improving accents and speech expressions across languages.
The new Korean voices are Hanul, a male voice, and Haetsal, a female voice.
The update also gives the voice more varied phrases to use while searching for information, rather than repeatedly saying it is checking.
Its full-duplex technology lets users interrupt while ChatGPT is speaking and lets ChatGPT wait when users pause.
Reports say the update is rolling out worldwide; one article says it is being released in stages, while another describes it as rolling out to all users.
