Two Korean pitchers withdraw from APBC with elbow injuries

Doosan’s Choi Min-seok and NC’s Shin Young-woo will miss the APBC after right elbow injuries ruled them out of South Korea’s squad.

The Asia Professional Baseball Championship takes place in Tokyo from November 12 to 15, with South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia competing.

Choi had been a leading candidate to start for South Korea after a strong season and helped the country win gold at the Asian Games in September.

Shin was set for his first senior national-team appearance.

South Korea named 33 players but can take only 28, and the team had already expected to cut players from its pitching group.

Manager Choi Won-ho said one more player will be dropped, with a final decision due by November 11 after checking the condition of KIA players joining the team.

Players left off the roster will still travel with the team and observe during the tournament.

We have already selected five more pitchers. So we have to cut three anyway, and with Samsung advancing to the Korean Series, Jang Chan-hee and Bae Chan-seung will also be out. So we only need to exclude one more player without additional selections.

We decided that even the players who do not make the roster will go along, watch the games and experience life with the national team.
