Jodie Whittaker plays the new prime minister in The Diplomat season 4

Jodie Whittaker joins The Diplomat season 4 as Bethan Vaughan, a new character in the Netflix political drama.

Vaughan becomes Britain’s prime minister after Nicol Trowbridge resigns in episode 4, leaving a leadership vacancy.

Vaughan wins a party contest, becoming only the second prime minister shown in the series.

Whittaker is known for playing the Thirteenth Doctor in Doctor Who and also starred in Broadchurch.

Vaughan’s arrival changes the dynamic for Kate Wyler, the US ambassador played by Keri Russell, and the Penn administration.

Though Vaughan initially seems like someone Kate could work with, their relationship turns frosty, and Vaughan is not inclined to follow Washington’s lead.

All eight season 4 episodes are streaming on Netflix, so viewers can see how the new prime minister affects the story.
