JBL Bar 800MK2 delivers powerful, expansive surround sound
The JBL Bar 800MK2 is a mid-range home sound system made up of a soundbar, detachable rear speakers and a subwoofer.
It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and uses a 7.1-channel setup to create surround sound.
In testing with films and music, it delivered expansive sound, strong bass and clear dialogue.
The system creates Atmos height effects virtually, but it has no dedicated upward-firing speakers, so the sense of sound coming from above is less convincing than it could be.
Its detachable rear speakers can help create a more immersive setup, and the companion app and connectivity options add flexibility.
The subwoofer is bulky, and its HDMI input supports 4K video only at 60Hz.
The system is regularly discounted and was recommended, with its price making it a more appealing option.
