Rings of Power Season 3 Faces a Dilemma Over a Defector Orc
The Rings of Power is adding Marnûkh, an orc played by Adam Young, in its third season.
In the season trailer, he arrives in Rivendell offering help to the Elves.
It is not yet clear whether he is sincere or working for Sauron, the series’ central villain.
The show is set in Middle-earth’s Second Age, which Tolkien described mainly as a broad history rather than a detailed story, so the series has to invent some events and characters.
Some viewers have objected to the show portraying orcs sympathetically, including its scenes of an orc family in season 2.
If Marnûkh is a villain in disguise, that may reinforce the idea that orcs are evil, but the series has already used deception as a plot device.
Either direction could bring criticism, and Marnûkh’s eventual role has not yet been revealed.
