Indonesia distributes 5,000 food aid packages in South Sulawesi

Indonesia’s Social Affairs Ministry distributed 5,000 food packages to low-income families in South Sulawesi.

The aid went to recipients in Makassar, Maros and Gowa, including families in social assistance programs and parents of Sekolah Rakyat students.

The distribution marked Youth Pledge Day and one year of Sekolah Rakyat, a government school program.

One ministry directorate delivered 2,000 packages in Makassar, while another distributed 3,000 across the three areas.

The packages contained basic foods, including rice, cooking oil and sugar, with some also including canned fish or milk.

The aid targeted families among the lowest-income groups, including households ranked in the bottom four tenths of a national social and economic database.

The ministry did not say whether further distributions are planned.
