Prosecutors seek five-year ban from office for French MP Sébastien Delogu
French prosecutors have asked for a two-year suspended prison term and a five-year ban from elected office for Sébastien Delogu, a lawmaker from the left-wing France Unbowed party.
He is on trial in Marseille over private documents he shared on Instagram in 2024.
The documents belonged to business leader Isidore Aragones and had been stolen during a workplace dispute at his cleaning company.
Prosecutors say Delogu was responsible for receiving stolen material and disclosing private information.
Delogu apologised in court and said he had been poorly advised, while his lawyer asked the court to acquit him on one charge and not impose a political ban.
The prosecution says the alleged conduct was serious enough to warrant barring him from office.
If the court imposes the ban, it would not immediately remove him from his current parliamentary seat, but could prevent him from standing in a future election after his term ends.
The court is due to deliver its decision on 11 December 2026.
