Governments in 35 countries urge people to prepare emergency supplies

Governments in 35 countries are urging people to prepare for emergencies linked to conflict, extreme weather and cyberattacks.

Thailand is the latest country to issue advice, asking households to pack a bag for the first 72 hours of an emergency.

The bag could help during events such as floods, earthquakes, disease outbreaks or unrest, according to Thailand’s disaster agency.

Many governments recommend keeping supplies for three days, including food, water and medicine.

Sweden and Norway advise preparing for a week, while Germany recommends supplies for up to 10 days.

The European Commission is also promoting emergency bags and preparedness lessons in primary schools, as governments seek to help people cope with crises.
