Company proposes restarting Sassnitz–Trelleborg ferry route next summer

HLS Hanse Line Shipping says it plans to restart ferry services between Sassnitz on Germany’s Rügen island and Trelleborg in Sweden next summer.

The route, known as the Königslinie, has had no direct freight ferry service for seven years, since Stena Line stopped operating it during the Covid pandemic.

Mukran port’s operator initially said it knew nothing of the plan, while the company says it has spoken with the Sassnitz port; discussions are still too early for firm commitments.

The proposed weekday service would run three times a day in each direction, but the crossing time is disputed: the company says just over two and a half hours, while NDR reports three and a half.

The company lists one-way fares for people travelling with a car from €49 and has indicated bookings could open in March, though dates and prices are not yet firm.

The service appears aimed mainly at freight, and the route would restore a direct link between Rügen and southern Sweden if the plan goes ahead.
