Taylor’s goal stands after long VAR check in Sassuolo-Lazio

In Sassuolo-Lazio, Taylor scored less than two minutes into the match to break the deadlock.

Sassuolo protested that Davide Frattesi was offside inside the penalty area and in the path of the ball.

Frattesi jumped to avoid touching the ball, but Sassuolo captain Domenico Berardi argued that his position still mattered.

VAR checked the goal for about three minutes, and the referee allowed it to stand.

Refereeing analyst Marelli said Frattesi was not in the goalkeeper’s line of sight and did not affect his ability to make a save.

The goal stood because Frattesi was judged not to interfere with the goalkeeper.

In my view, the goal should stand. Frattesi is in an offside position and in the six-yard box, but he is not in the goalkeeper’s line of sight; he is to his right, so he does not affect the Sassuolo goalkeeper’s ability to intervene in the slightest.
