Parthiv Patel Misses Deadline to Apply for BCCI Chief Selector Role

Parthiv Patel did not apply for the BCCI chief selector role before applications closed on October 14.

The former India wicketkeeper had been viewed as a possible replacement for Ajit Agarkar, but he cannot apply now unless the BCCI extends the deadline.

The selector chooses India’s men’s teams for Tests, one-day internationals and T20 internationals, and also scouts players and assesses their performances.

Pragyan Ojha is serving as interim chief selector because he has played the most Tests among the current committee members.

Ramesh Powar and Sameer Dighe applied for the vacancy, which is expected to go to a candidate from the West Zone.

Patel is likely to remain with the Gujarat Titans’ coaching setup and continue broadcasting work, while the BCCI’s next steps were not stated.

Don't know if the BCCI would extend the deadline, but Parthiv had not applied till 5 pm on October 14. The situation could change if the deadline is extended or he changes his mind.

BCCI would have preferred continuity with Agarkar staying on till the World Cup, but things didn’t go as expected. If a new chairman of selection committee comes in, there’s a chance his vision could be different from the ones working now.
