Volvo expands Nvidia partnership for future automated driving
Volvo is expanding its long-running partnership with Nvidia to develop automated driving for future vehicles.
The plan combines Volvo’s vehicle safety systems and engineering with Nvidia’s sensor and computing architecture, driving software and safety evaluation tools.
The system is intended to handle urban streets and highways, using AI software alongside other driving software and multiple types of sensors.
Volvo already uses Nvidia Orin computer chips in all its battery-electric vehicles, and says the expanded work could bring the technology to electric, plug-in hybrid and gasoline-powered models.
Volvo has not named the first model or disclosed the deal’s value, so the scale and cost remain unclear.
The first vehicle with the new technology is expected to debut within this decade, though Volvo says it will not arrive in the near future.

What people are saying
The point is we run these two stacks at the same time, and we have multimodal sensors in our philosophy because it’s a safer product that way
Automakers used to be very much like car-line-based development and working with various suppliers, etc. and we have completely changed and migrated into being a full-tech stack company
will come in the not-too-near future
