NC pitcher Jeong Gu-beom retires after persistent shoulder pain

NC Dinos left-handed pitcher Jeong Gu-beom is retiring at 26 because ongoing shoulder pain has made it difficult for him to continue playing.

Jeong joined the South Korean professional baseball club as the first pick of the second round of the 2020 draft.

He appeared in six games for NC in 2022 and 2023, recording one loss and an 8.36 earned-run average.

NC says it will list him as a voluntarily released player, which means he cannot take part in team training.

He can apply to return to the KBO League only after a year from the date he is listed.

The club also released five other players: pitchers Kang Tae-gyeong and No Jae-won, infielder Jang Chang-hoon, and outfielders Park Young-bin and Yang Ga-on-sol.
