Eugenio Finardi recalls drug addiction and the loss of his first wife

Singer Eugenio Finardi spoke about his past drug addiction during an episode of the Italian TV dance show Ballando con le Stelle.

He said he and his first wife, Patrizia, shared a relationship shaped by drug dependence.

After their daughter Elettra was born in 1982, Finardi entered a therapeutic community in Canada to address his addiction.

Patrizia had contracted hepatitis during those years and died at 56 from hepatitis C, according to Finardi.

He said their children, Elettra and Emanuele, grew up without their mother.

Finardi described addiction as a prison and said people and their families face the consequences of choices made during that time.

He said he shared his experience to show that he is still living at 74, not to seek pity.
