Mayfield returns as Buccaneers lead Panthers 33-6 at halftime

Baker Mayfield returned for Tampa Bay against the Carolina Panthers on Oct.

25 after missing three games with a right-thumb injury.

The Buccaneers used a custom glove to protect his throwing thumb, made with help from the Tampa Bay Rays’ equipment staff.

Tampa Bay led 33-6 at halftime, with Mayfield throwing a touchdown pass to Tez Johnson.

The Buccaneers also scored when Calijah Kancey returned a fumble 32 yards and cornerback Zyon McCollum returned a blocked extra point for two points.

The team had a 1-5 record entering the game, while Carolina led the NFC South at 3-2.

Mayfield’s return came as Tampa Bay sought to improve its position in a division where the other teams also had losing records.
