Estudiantes beat Flamengo on penalties to reach Libertadores final

Estudiantes beat Flamengo 3-2 on penalties after their Copa Libertadores semi-final ended 0-0 in Rio de Janeiro.

The Argentine club will face Brazilian side Palmeiras in the final, after Palmeiras also advanced through a penalty shootout against Fluminense.

The match at the Maracanã was the second 0-0 draw between Estudiantes and Flamengo in the tie.

Estudiantes played with 10 men from early in the second half after Baltasar Rodríguez received a second yellow card.

Goalkeeper Muslera saved three Flamengo penalties, helping secure Estudiantes’ place in the final.

The final is scheduled for November 28 at Estadio Centenario in Uruguay, with the start time still to be announced.

Estudiantes are seeking their fifth Libertadores title, and their first since winning the competition in 2009.
