Northampton rally to beat Gloucester as Alex Mitchell leaves injured

Northampton Saints beat Gloucester 28-14 in a Premiership rugby match after falling 14 points behind.

Gloucester scored twice early, but Northampton responded with four unanswered tries, including scores from Tom Pearson and hooker James Langdon.

Northampton’s defence and stronger attack turned the game around, while Gloucester coach George Skivington said his side lost accuracy and gave away penalties.

The result matters for England because Northampton scrum-half Alex Mitchell is a key player ahead of the team’s match against Australia.

Mitchell left with a hamstring problem, and Northampton coach Sam Vesty said it was too early to know how serious it was.

England also have concerns over fly-half Fin Smith, who was absent with a calf injury.

Mitchell’s availability for England’s Australia match is uncertain, with England due to begin their autumn series next Sunday.

[It was] a really satisfying win, a real contest of attack and defence, where both defences were tested but stood up.

He felt something in his hamstring, we can't know more than that. It may not be too bad but then nobody who pulls their hamstring thinks it's bad.

We came out of the blocks well, attacked the game, but we just weren't accurate enough especially at the back-end of the first-half.
