Morelia film festival screens Curaçao award-winning film
The Morelia International Film Festival screened an award-winning film during its 24th edition in Morelia, Mexico.
Le dernier repas, a 2024 debut feature by Canadian director Maryse Legagneur, won the Yellow Cardinal award at the Curaçao International Film Festival.
The film follows a terminally ill Haitian refugee in Montreal who seeks to reconcile with his daughter after 20 years apart.
Its story connects the Duvalier dictatorship in Haiti with contemporary Quebec.
The film explores trauma, family ties and how shared history and cultural heritage can help people heal.
The screening was part of a partnership between the Morelia and Curaçao festivals that began in 2013, and Morelia also presented four short films in a Caribbean-focused selection.
Chloë Roddick will lead the Curaçao festival’s artistic program from April 2027.
