Putin sets rules for transferring unclaimed bank assets to the state

Vladimir Putin signed a decree setting rules for transferring certain assets of deceased Russians to the state.

It covers money and precious metals in bank accounts or deposits when the person died more than five years ago and no inheritance case was opened.

The assets can pass to the state as an inheritance under the law.

An estate is considered unclaimed when there are no legal or named heirs, or no heir has accepted it.

Rosimushchestvo will compile a list using information from tax authorities, notaries, bailiffs and banks.

The list will include personal details of the deceased and information about their bank accounts.

The government must propose legal changes by April 1, 2027, to set out how assets eligible for transfer will be identified.
