Hyundai tests parking robots at a South Korean apartment complex

Hyundai Motor Group demonstrated robots that park and move cars at an apartment complex in Siheung, South Korea.

The trial is being run by a consortium of Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Wia and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

It was South Korea's first test of parking robots in a residential complex with at least 50 spaces.

The demonstration showed the robots handling cars arriving and leaving at the same time, moving double-parked cars, and temporarily bringing out a car.

A request made through an apartment wall pad took about three minutes for a robot to move the car to a pickup area.

The trial also linked the robots with the complex's gate, residents' wall pads and an AI-based vehicle inspection system, testing a connected service from arrival to departure.

Hyundai plans to develop operating standards and explore use at transport hubs and commercial sites, while discussing needed rule changes with relevant agencies.
