José Antonio Meade to lead Grupo Gigante board from 2027

Grupo Gigante has named José Antonio Meade its next board chair.

The Mexican conglomerate said he will take up the non-executive role on January 1, 2027, replacing Ángel Losada Moreno.

Losada, who has led the board and served as executive president since 2003, is retiring from those positions but will remain a board member and become chair emeritus.

Meade will oversee board discussions, not daily operations of the company.

Grupo Gigante operates in retail, restaurants and real estate, including businesses such as Office Depot and Toks.

The appointment comes as the company reorganizes its business portfolio and seeks to strengthen its operations.

Meade has held senior Mexican government posts, including finance minister, and also serves on boards at HSBC, Chedraui, Nemak and Fibra Uno.

His appointment takes effect at the start of 2027, alongside other board changes approved by shareholders.
