Bulog plans 100 warehouses to reduce reliance on rented storage

Indonesia’s state food company, Bulog, plans to build 100 warehouses across the country.

The move is intended to reduce its reliance on rented storage.

Bulog owns warehouses with capacity for 3.1 million tonnes of rice.

Its rice stocks peaked at 5.4 million tonnes in September, so it rented additional storage.

Bulog says it still rents capacity for 2.1 million tonnes, and those rental contracts are paid yearly.

The new warehouses are meant to improve storage operations and efficiency.

Bulog says it is preparing to carry out the construction, but gives no timeline.
