Malik Beasley moves toward guilty plea in federal NBA betting case

Malik Beasley is moving toward a guilty plea in a federal case involving alleged betting on NBA games.

The 29-year-old guard played for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023–24 season, when prosecutors say the alleged scheme took place.

Prosecutors allege Beasley had built up millions of dollars in gambling debt to former teammate Ed Davis and agreed to manipulate his performance to settle it.

They say other people used information about his performance to bet that he would fall below certain statistical targets.

Investigators identified four games in early 2024 where they say the fixing occurred, though the plan reportedly faltered when Beasley exceeded a rebound target against the Brooklyn Nets.

The case is part of a wider federal indictment charging six people with sports bribery, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.

Beasley had planned to contest the charges, but formal plea discussions are now under way; the sources do not give a date for a plea or sentencing.
