Soraya Thronicke says Bolsonaro threatened to expose her son's transition

Senator Soraya Thronicke says Jair Bolsonaro threatened to expose her son’s gender transition during Brazil’s 2022 presidential campaign.

Thronicke, who was then running for president, said she heard about the alleged threat through other people at a meeting involving journalists connected to the campaigns.

She said Bolsonaro’s team planned to release images of her son from before and after his transition.

She moved her son to the countryside for 45 days because she feared the exposure and said she panicked.

Her son encouraged her to continue her campaign, and Thronicke said she challenged Bolsonaro’s team to carry out the threat.

The images were never released, according to Thronicke.

She had been elected to the Senate in 2018 with Bolsonaro’s support but later broke with him and faced off against him in campaign debates.

Her account brings a private threat into public view, but the sources report no further action over the allegation.

I, within the 45 days of the campaign, took my son from here, moved him to the interior, Abin was enough, and I panicked

I want him to speak now. I want him to speak, to carry out the threat. If he doesn't want to see me explode, not only in Brazil, but in the world, he shouldn't do it. But if he does, he will regret it for the rest of his life

And I am saying this for the first time. The first time I am telling this story. Because my son is LGBTQIA+. Everyone already knows. But this is Bolsonaro's threat to me. Bolsonaro threatened me with my son
