Man arrested after DNA match in 1994 rape case
Police arrested a 57-year-old man from Helmond on suspicion of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1994.
The girl, who was deaf and had limited sight, was waiting for a ride near a riding school in Sint-Michielsgestel.
The attack was reported to have happened after the man pulled her into a car and took her to a nearby wood.
Police investigated at the time, but no one was arrested, and evidence was kept for possible later testing.
A renewed examination of that evidence produced a DNA match with the suspect, whose profile was already in the national database because of another offence.
Police have not said what that offence was.
The suspect remains in custody for 14 more days after appearing before a judge, as the case continues.
