Mamata Banerjee Says She May Join Delhi Protest Against Chief Election Commissioner

Mamata Banerjee said she may join a protest in Delhi on October 10 calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to be removed.

The Cockroach Janta Party is sponsoring the gathering at Jantar Mantar.

Banerjee also said she intends to approach the President of India about alleged vote theft and the Special Intensive Revision, an electoral process she raised concerns about.

She questioned claims about the likely result of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly election and said they raised concerns about rigging and bogus voting.

Banerjee also criticised the Delhi Police’s treatment of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and expressed support for opposition leaders.

Opposition MPs plan to march to the President’s residence on October 9, and Banerjee said she may join them.

I may join the protest at Jantar Mantar scheduled for October 10, but nothing can be confirmed now. We have maintained a relationship with them (the CJP) and have extended our support...

I also intend to approach the Honourable President of India and seek the signatures and support of leaders from political parties across the country, because these concerns go beyond individual parties and require the attention of political leaders at the national level.

Everyone has the right to take part in a movement, but the way Priyanka was treated was also very wrong. Every household has women, mothers and children, and they deserve respect and protection, irrespective of political differences. No political movement should result in the targeting or intimidation of family members.
