Modi says renewable energy helped shield India from West Asia crisis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said clean-energy investment helped India withstand the West Asia energy crisis and maintain strong economic growth.
He made the remarks at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit in New Delhi.
India has more than 300 GW of installed non-fossil power capacity, according to Modi.
The country is aiming for 500 GW by 2030, though one account also describes adding that capacity over the next 10 to 11 years.
The crisis has disrupted energy supplies worldwide and highlighted how reliance on fossil fuels can expose economies to shocks.
Modi said clean power is important for energy and economic security and urged wider use of solar power, electric vehicles and cleaner cooking options.
He also said India's renewable-energy sector could offer investment opportunities worth more than ₹20 lakh crore by the end of the decade.

What people are saying
This global crisis has given every country a clear message that energy security is directly linked to economic security. If we continue to remain too dependent on fossil fuels, global economy will continue to be disrupted again and again,
If India had not created renewable energy capacity in the last 10 years, then the energy crisis in India could have been worse than in other parts of the world... India's economic growth is high despite the ongoing West Asia crisis.
