Hyundai Ioniq 3 brings bold design to the electric compact-car market

Hyundai is positioning the Ioniq 3 as a key electric model for buyers in the compact-car market.

Developed mainly for Europe and made in Turkey, it is priced from €28,950 and is intended to compete with cars including the VW ID.3 Neo and Kia EV3.

Its sharply angled shape stands out from the SUVs common in this class, while the cabin and 441-litre boot offer more space than its compact size suggests.

Inside, a large touchscreen runs new Android-based software, alongside physical buttons for some controls.

The base version has a 42 kWh battery and a stated range of 344 kilometres, while a larger 61 kWh battery costs €4,000 more and has a stated range of up to 497 kilometres.

Charging speeds are a weak point, at up to 119 kW for the smaller battery and 110 kW for the larger one.

The review describes the car’s technology as average overall, so its distinctive design and space set it apart as it enters a competitive market.
