HiteJinro prepares canned Terra and Chamisul soju-beer mix
HiteJinro is preparing a canned soju-and-beer mix using its Terra beer and Chamisul soju brands in South Korea.
The drink is known informally as “Tesla,” a name consumers use for the two brands mixed together.
The mix has been popular since Terra launched in 2019, but people have usually bought the drinks separately and combined them themselves.
Other companies have already introduced canned soju-and-beer mixes, including a product that sold more than one million cans in its first 40 days, according to one account.
South Korea’s soju and beer sales both fell last year, and HiteJinro’s revenue also declined.
A ready-made can could make the drink easier to take to places such as campsites or sports venues, but it could also reduce sales of the company’s separate drinks.
HiteJinro has not given a launch date or final product details, and the market response remains to be seen.
HiteJinro is preparing a ready-to-drink canned mix of its Terra beer and Chamisul soju, known among consumers as “Tesla.”
The company says it is preparing to launch the product, but has not publicly confirmed its launch date or final specifications.
One report says the can may be 485 millilitres, with an alcohol content of about 6%, and could reach stores as early as November.
The move comes as South Korean soju and beer shipments have fallen and HiteJinro’s sales have declined.
Other ready-made soju-and-beer mixes have entered the market, but an industry source said consumer response to the format remains uncertain.

We are indeed preparing to launch an actual product.
Soju-and-beer mix drinking is a drinking culture whose appeal lies in mixing soju and beer in the proportions consumers want.
Since consumers have different preferred proportions and alcohol levels, we will have to see how the market responds to a ready-made product.
