FC Utrecht fans barred from two matches against FC Twente

FC Utrecht supporters will not be allowed at two matches against FC Twente.

The ban applies to the October game in Enschede and the return match on January 17 in Utrecht.

The decision follows clashes between the clubs’ supporters at a cup match in January and a league match in March.

At the cup match, Utrecht fans threw heavy illegal fireworks during a confrontation with Twente supporters.

Both teams will play without visiting fans in the away sections at the two fixtures.

Utrecht player Oualid Agougil said the absence was disappointing, but that his team would need to create its own energy on the pitch.

The clubs are due to meet again in January, with the visiting section also set to remain empty.
