Smartsheet unveils standalone AI product vsActual
At its Engage conference in Seattle, Smartsheet unveiled vsActual, a standalone AI product that customers can use without its flagship software.
The tool reads a company’s strategy and budgets, then checks work across platforms including Jira, Workday and Slack to flag projects falling behind.
CEO Raj Singh is positioning Smartsheet as a multi-product company, a year after taking over the business.
The company is best known for software that helps teams plan projects and track tasks, and it also owns Brandfolder, a digital asset management service.
vsActual targets senior executives rather than project managers, broadening Smartsheet’s audience and working with tools companies already use.
The product draws on the company’s Execution Graph, built from two decades of data about how work is planned and completed.
Smartsheet is also shifting toward usage-based pricing, with customers paying a base fee and credits, while seat-based plans remain available.

What people are saying
Smartsheet, the company, and Smartsheet, the product, were exactly the same thing — same box, same ceiling — an attractive ceiling, but still a ceiling
Most of the competition is saying, ‘Well, if you move all your stuff onto my platform, you’ll be totally in control,’
I think every CIO is thinking, I’m never going to do that.
