Bose acquires Skullcandy to reach more audio consumers

Bose has acquired audio company Skullcandy, bringing two competing headphone brands under one owner.

Bose says Skullcandy will remain a separate brand and continue to be based in Park City, Utah.

The companies had already worked together, putting Bose technologies such as noise cancellation and spatial audio in some Skullcandy products.

Bose is known for headphones aimed at travellers, while Skullcandy’s designs and links with board-sports athletes could help it reach consumers with different priorities.

Bose says the acquisition will widen access to its audio technology, including its noise-cancelling features.

Skullcandy is set to become part of Bose’s premium audio business, though the companies have not shared the financial details of the deal.
