US says it helped Gulf states export 1.5 billion barrels of oil
US forces helped Gulf countries export over 1.5 billion barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz since June, according to US Central Command.
The command says more than 3,000 commercial vessels crossed the strait with its support over six months.
The strait is a key route for global oil shipments, and Iran has demanded that ships get its permission to pass.
More than 95 percent of ships crossed safely, the US command said, while also reporting that the main shipping routes were clear of Iranian mines.
The figures come amid continued threats to commercial shipping and a conflict that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
Oil exports from the region have largely returned to pre-war levels, but oil prices remain far higher than before the conflict.
US Admiral Brad Cooper said the United States would continue working with Gulf partners and the shipping industry to keep traffic moving.
