Persija Face PSMS Without Shin Tae-yong in I.League Cup Opener

Persija Jakarta are set to open the 2026-27 I.League Cup against PSMS Medan on Tuesday at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang.

Head coach Shin Tae-yong will miss the match because of a health issue and did not travel with the team.

Assistant coach Choi In-cheol will take charge, saying the team remains in regular contact with Shin and will use his tactics.

Persija brought 19 players, mostly young players and others who have had little playing time in the league.

Choi said the squad has comparable quality across the players, so he is confident rotation will not weaken the team.

Goalkeeper Aqil Savik said the match is a chance for players who have not had much time on the field.

Choi said Persija had not decided whether Shayne Pattynama would start.
