Viking beat 10-man Sabah 4-1 for first Champions League league-phase win

Norwegian side Viking beat Azerbaijan's Sabah 4-1 in Stavanger to claim their first win in this Champions League league phase.

Sabah took an early lead when Orphe Mbina finished a counter-attack set up by Umarali Rakhmonaliev.

Erik Botheim equalised for Viking before the hosts went ahead after a handball penalty, with Zlatko Tripić scoring the rebound.

Sabah's Aden McCarthy was sent off for a studs-up challenge, leaving the visitors with 10 players.

Viking made the advantage count: Henrik Falchener headed in from a corner, then Botheim scored his second after Sabah lost the ball while trying to play out from the back.

The win matters for Viking's first Champions League appearance since 1992-93; Sabah are making their debut in the competition.

Viking next travel to Atlético Madrid and Sabah host Barcelona on 25 November.
