Mexico's electoral authority fines three parties over improper affiliations
Mexico's National Electoral Institute, known as the INE, fined three political parties more than 55 million pesos.
The parties are the National Action Party (PAN), Morena and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM).
The cases concerned people who said they had been affiliated with parties without their consent.
The INE said the parties did not show that those people had agreed to join, and also cited unauthorized use of personal data.
The decision highlights how political parties must prove people agreed to join before recording them as members.
The INE also publicly reprimanded several people in separate cases and referred detected irregularities for further review.
