Spain offers larger energy-saving incentives for replacing fossil-fuel boilers
Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition has approved larger incentives for replacing fossil-fuel boilers with electric heat pumps in homes and apartment buildings.
The incentives increase the energy savings recognised through the country’s Energy Savings Certificates, which are used to support energy-efficiency work.
The recognised savings are multiplied by two for detached homes, 2.5 for flats or buildings with individual systems, three for buildings with central heating, and four when individual heating is replaced by a central system.
Homes with vulnerable residents can receive a further 50% increase in the multiplier.
The scheme is part of a national plan to encourage heat pumps, and heating and hot water in homes account for 10% of Spain’s energy use and 7% of its greenhouse gas emissions.
Eligible work must begin by 30 November 2027, or by 31 December 2027 for owners’ associations, and must meet technical requirements.
The ministry is also consulting on whether to extend the multipliers to other home measures that cut fossil-fuel use.
Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition has approved larger energy-saving incentives for replacing fossil-fuel boilers with electric heat pumps.
The scheme can multiply recognized energy savings by up to four, with an additional 50% increase for work in homes with vulnerable consumers.
The multiplier depends on the home and heating system, ranging from two for single-family homes to four when an individual system is replaced by a centralized one.
