Apu Speaks Again on The Simpsons With Sunil Malhotra as His New Voice

Apu spoke again on The Simpsons in the Oct.

18 episode “The Revengening,” after nearly a decade without dialogue.

Sunil Malhotra is the character’s new voice, taking over from Hank Azaria, who had voiced Apu before stepping away from the role.

Apu had been seen on the show since 2017, but not heard.

The character had faced criticism over its portrayal of a South Asian convenience store worker, including in the 2017 documentary “The Problem With Apu.”

Malhotra said he spoke with producers about making the character more culturally appropriate.

Janina Gavankar also debuted as Apu’s wife, Manjula, in the episode.

Producers say Apu and his family will appear more often now that Apu is back and the Kwik-E-Mart has reopened.
