SNCF files complaint after estate trees repeatedly fall on RER D tracks

Trees from the Star Academy château estate in Dammarie-lès-Lys have fallen onto RER D tracks twice this year.

The latest fall was on October 25, and stopped trains between Corbeil-Essonnes and Melun for more than six hours.

Other trees from the property fell onto the tracks during a storm in January.

SNCF Réseau, which manages railway infrastructure, filed a complaint against the property owner after efforts to settle the matter informally failed.

The owner says they did not know about the latest incident or the complaint, and says a tree surgeon was brought in after January's storm.

French law requires owners to keep vegetation near railway land far enough away from tracks and equipment.

The owner could face criminal penalties and pay for damage, and SNCF Réseau says it is also considering legal action.
