Walker dies after fall from Blencathra ridge in Lake District
A man in his 40s died after falling from Sharp Edge on Blencathra in Cumbria’s Lake District.
The fall happened on Thursday afternoon as he was walking along the ridge.
Sharp Edge is a popular, grade-one scrambling route leading to Blencathra’s summit.
The British Mountaineering Council says rain and wind can make the route slippery and difficult.
Rescue teams and helicopter crews reached the mountainside, but the man could not be resuscitated.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious, and Keswick Mountain Rescue Team has offered condolences to his family and friends.
