Woman dies in crash involving driver suspected of having sex while driving

A 49-year-old woman died in a car crash in Odivelas, near Lisbon, on October 14.

Investigators say she was in the car with a 26-year-old man, and the pair may have been having sex while he was driving.

The car crashed shortly before 3 a.m.; no other vehicle was involved.

The woman, who was Brazilian, was not wearing a seat belt, and rescuers could not revive her.

The driver left the scene and later went to a police station with his lawyer.

Police have opened an investigation, and he could face charges including dangerous driving, failing to help someone in danger and negligent homicide.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to establish how the crash happened.
