Indonesia Plans to Pay Civil Servants Through Village Cooperatives

Indonesia is preparing a plan for civil servants to receive their salaries through Merah Putih cooperatives in villages and urban areas.

Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono said the plan is targeted to begin in 2026 and that a proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry.

The government says the plan is part of strengthening cooperatives' role in financial services and the local economy.

The payment process has not been explained in detail.

Officials have not said when the first payments will happen, how many workers will be included or which cooperatives will take part.

The Cooperatives Ministry is still working on the arrangements, and the government has not announced further details.
